65-Year-Old Woman with 13 Kids (Aged 10 to 44) Seeks Fertility Treatment, Gives Birth to Quadruplets!
Her oldest child is already 44 years old and the youngest is 10 (and she has 7 grandkids) but a 65-year-old woman from Germany decided to seek fertility treatment to conceive a child again after her youngest wished she had a younger sibling.
Annegret Raunigk was, however, banned from seeking fertility treatment in Germany; thus, she traveled to Ukraine to have the procedure done. The single mother was excited to learn she got pregnant from the procedure – especially after learning she was pregnant with quadruplets!
In such situations, some women would choose to selectively abort the babies to give the others a better chance of survival; something called “selective reduction” but Raunigk decided to keep all her babies.
It was quite remarkable that the pregnancy was free from any complications and Raunigk gave birth to the quadruplets via c-section. All the babies weighed over 5 lbs. Though two had to undergo surgery at birth, they are alright now and have been released from the hospital. The babies’ names are: Dries, Bence and Fjonn for the boys and Neeta for the girl.
Raunigk has received plenty of negative comments about her decision to get pregnant at 65 years old, especially because all her 7 grandkids would be older than her own babies. This is what she has to say:
“Everyone should live as they want to but everyone, it seems, has something to say about this. This is not about egotism and it is not selfishness. I like children – they keep me young. You get more tolerant the older you get. I would never dream of telling anyone to do this or that. I am looked after, consulted, observed. I am fit and I am ready to have these babies and to care for them.”
