While Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzō Abe often looks so strict and serious, he actually has a warm, funny side – and he showed that to the world by turning into Mario of the Super Mario Bros. game during the closing program for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
With the next Olympics going to be held in Tokyo, Japan in 2020, the country was given the chance to showcase what people might expect to see and what the country can offer – and they created an interesting video for it!
In the clip, various Japanese cartoon and anime characters appeared alongside athletes in various sports: Doraemon, Hello Kitty, Pac-Man, Mario, etc.
Then, towards the end of the clip, Prime Minister Abe appears. As he sat inside his car, he mused how he wouldn’t be able to make it to Rio on time. So, he transforms into Mario and, with the help of Doraemon, creates a pipeline that brought him straight to Rio.
At the stadium, a huge pipeline appears – and there stands Mario who transforms into the prime minister amid cheers from the audience! Isn’t this cool?
