Baby Born with Extra Head on Stomach Gets Rejected by Horrified Father, Finds Help in Kind Doctors

A baby born with an extra head on her stomach gets rejected by her horrified father; thankfully, kind doctors managed to save her life.

In Jahazpur, India, a 24-year-old man and his 21-year-old wife were excited to welcome their babies, especially after learning that they are going to have twins; but their joy turned to horror when only one daughter was born while the other was actually just a head sticking out of her stomach!

When she had an ultrasound, the doctor told her that she was going to have twins – and this was something that got the two excited. The couple works in a farm.

One day, the woman complained of intense pain in her stomach; thus, she was rushed to Ram Snehi Hospital where doctors performed an emergency C-section to deliver the babies. Much to their surprise, however, the other child who was supposed to be the twin was actually attached to the other one’s stomach.

While the parasitic twin had facial features, these weren’t fully formed. The horrified father could not bear looking his child, watching her suffer. Thinking that the girl would die soon, anyway, the father told doctors that his wife’s health is top priority. It didn’t matter to him if the doctors tried to save his child or not.

But the kind doctors at Ram Snehi Hospital told the dad that there was still a chance that the child can survive if they can remove the parasitic twin; however, the cash-strapped dad didn’t have funds for the operation.

Still, the doctors took pity on the baby. They transferred her to JK Lone Hospital in Jaipur, 300 km away, where a team of doctors performed the surgery.

This is one of the rarest cases of parasitic twin. The parents told us the mother had undergone sonography and other tests but were not told about carrying an underdeveloped twin. They were shattered when they saw the baby. We had to convince them to give us a nod for the surgery to save their daughter’s life,” said JK Lone Hospital pediatric surgery head, Dr. Pravin Mathur.

Thankfully, the surgery was successful. Hours later, the child was breastfeeding again and is recovering nicely. Doctors expect that she would be discharged soon and that she would live a normal life.

What’s even more amazing is that the hospital waived the fees for the mother and the child, saying that this was a rare case that deserved help. Isn’t that great?
