The world was shocked to learn the sad news of the death of singer George Michael on Christmas evening. He reportedly died in his sleep inside his home in Goring, Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom. He was 53.
There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, his publicist announced.
“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period,” his publicist wrote. “The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”
At 13:42 GMT on Christmas Day, an ambulance from South Central Ambulance Service arrived at the singer’s home, Thames Valley Police revealed.
The cops issued the statement, “At this stage the death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. A post-mortem will be undertaken in due course. There will be no further updates from Thames Valley Police until the post-mortem has taken place.”
Dying ‘peacefully in his sleep’ was certainly something not expected of George Michael who had several run ins with law enforcement due to drugs and various incidents that made lurid headlines across tabloids and even on major newspapers.
It was even during one of those incidents back in 1998 when he proudly announced that he’s homosexual. But while many artists had their careers ruined due to suspicions of homosexuality, George’s admission further increased his popularity!
While he’s probably best known for “Careless Whisper”, George had plenty of other successful singles – as a solo artist or together with other singers and his former group, Wham! He had also sold tens of millions of his albums to adoring fans.
Rest in peace, George Michael! We know you’re going to make lots of beautiful music in heaven…
