Doctors Rush to Save Unborn Baby of Mom Killed by Gang in Drive-By Shooting

At 35 weeks pregnant, 27-year-old Vanessa Oviedo was excited to finally meet her son with boyfriend 23-year-old Andrew Aguirre in about a month but she never got to witness his birth because she was killed in a drive-by shooting at an intersection in Visalia, California.

According to reports, the two were in a car with Aguirre as driver. Two men and Oviedo’s 1-year-old daughter were with them. At the intersection, still unknown assailants rained fire on the vehicle in what police believe to be gang-related violence.

Oviedo was hit in the head while Aguirre got hit on the leg. Even with his wounds, Aguirre managed to drive the car to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where doctors rushed to save her unborn baby. Oviedo didn’t make it but the baby is now in stable condition.

The baby is Oviedo’s fourth child. She had picked out a name for him and was excited to meet the boy as she was set to give about a month away. In a Facebook post, she shared his name as Asiyas Andre Aguirre. It is so sad that she never got the chance to meet her son.

Police are still investigating whether Oviedo was the primary target of the shooting or if she was only hit by a stray bullet; though it appears that Aguirre was the one involved in the gangs and even had “Vitalia’s Most Wanted” tattooed on his head.

It is just so sad that target or not, she died in the gang wars and her unborn child almost did, too!
