An old couple living by themselves decided to adopt a 1-month-old puppy around 3 years ago so they can have a companion at home. They treated the puppy like their own kid, naming it Mouli.
It is unknown whether the couple had kids that already left them to start their own families but the two lived happily with Mouli at their house in Perumbavur, in Kerala, India.
One day, they noticed the 3-year-old dachshund barking angrily outside the house. As the sound got closer, the couple went out and were met by a 5-foot-long cobra on the doorway!
The little dog knew, somehow, that the couple were too old to fight the snake on their own. So, despite its small size, the dachshund grabbed the cobra to keep it away from its kind masters.
As expected, the cobra didn’t easily give up; it fought the dog and bit it several times. Despite the cobra’s venom slowing it down, Mouli fought as valiantly as he could, also biting the snake with all his might.
The fight lasted for about 30 minutes while the couple could only watch helplessly. Some neighbors tried to help out, with some calling the cops but the fight had already ended by the time the cops arrived.
Seeing the snake dead, the heroic dog knew he won. The crowd erupted in cheers but soon felt sad when the dog collapsed to the ground. Its tiny body wasn’t able to handle the snake’s venom – it died, too.
While the couple felt sad that their beloved pet died but knew that it sacrificed its life for them to live.
