This Man’s Second Face is the Stuff of Nightmares…I Wouldn’t Want to Meet Him!
The world has seen its fair share of oddities – and there is nothing odder than a person having two faces. You’ve heard of people with two heads or two people [that is, two heads] sharing the same body but it is very rare to hear of a person who has one head and one body but two faces!
It is believed that in the 19th century, a man named Edward Mordake lived. Edward was a peculiar person because he had two faces. Accounts vary and it is sometimes difficult to determine whether he was a product of fiction or was, indeed, a real man.
According to the legends surrounding Edward, he hated the face. He thought of it as a demon, especially because it was nasty and did things opposite of what he is thinking or doing. For example, the face would laugh if he was crying.
It could not make a sound but Edward claimed that at night, it whispers crazy things into his head. The second face really got to him so that he had instructions to have it removed when he died, so the face won’t be able to whisper its evil musings when he is down in the grave.
He was 23 when he could no longer bear this evil second face, so he took his own life so he could be at peace – or so the story goes. There is no conclusive evidence to tell whether Edward really existed but if he had really existed, I wouldn’t have wanted to meet him in person!
