Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This is true – yet different people have different perceptions of beauty based on a number of factors, including their gender, age, experience, culture, and many others.

Despite these differences, people often aim to achieve perfection based on their own ideals. Thus, SuperDrug Online Doctor commissioned a study to check the variations about how beauty is perceived across borders.

Using Photoshop, female graphic designers across the globe were invited to create their version of the “perfect body” based on their own ideals and those of the country they represent.

Here are the instructions:

Photoshop her form. The idea is to Photoshop and retouch this woman to make her more attractive to the citizens of your country. We are looking to explore how perceptions of beauty change across the world. Multiple designers are involved. You can modify clothing, but her form must be visible. No nudity. All other changes, including those to her shape and form, are up to you.

The results of the study are quite intriguing, especially after SuperDrug Online Doctor applied some science knowledge to check for the different features of these “perfect” women. They estimated the BMI of these different versions and found huge differences across cultures, with China making the most changes on the figure, including creating the thinnest model compared with the others. China’s version was almost unrecognizable from the original photo!

The others retained the woman’s facial features yet also made a lot of changes, particularly reducing her arms, waistline, and legs! Most even gave her thigh gaps.

What do you think would countries like the Philippines, USA, Venezuela, Argentina, Mexico, and others make as their ideal figure? Check them out in this photo series:
