People say that “Love is blind” – and such an adage seems to be the perfect answer to questions on why a gorgeous and perfectly healthy young woman married a crippled, wheel-chair bound man she met online. That’s really the only answer possible because people have been so cruel to the couple because of their choices.
Grigory Prutov was born in Vladivostok, Russia as a seemingly healthy, normal baby. But while kids his age grew and learned how to walk, run, and do various stuff, his body refused to cooperate. He woke up in the middle of the night, screaming due to back pain.
Things turned to worse and his parents soon realized that he was very sick. He was diagnosed with muscular atrophy which affected his spine muscles, causing them to deteriorate completely.
Needing 24-hour care, he was only given around 4 to 5 years to live but he defied the odds and lived to adulthood; although he remained crippled and stuck to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. With no cure for his condition, he took to staying indoors and only using the computer as link to the outside world because people rudely stare when he goes out.
Tired of his lonely life, the hopeless romantic in him wrote a heartbreaking prose which he posted online.
“I can’t experience the world in all its beauty. It hurts to think about all the things that I can never have…
I can’t experience the world in all its beauty. I can’t swim in a river or in the ocean. I can’t run around in the grass without pain. I can’t help my friends carry things…I can’t take care of the people I love. I can’t make them happy.
…and I’ll never know what it’s like to be loved, how it feels when someone wants you, when someone is jealous or proud to introduce you. I’ll never know what it’s like to hug someone I love, to protect her, to dance with her, to give her flowers or make her a gift.”
Some 3,000 km away, a woman named Anna from Kazakhstan read Grigory’s post and was so touched by this man’s heartbreaking thoughts that she messaged him right away.
Seeing her stunning beauty, Grigory fell in love with Anna – but will she love him back, knowing he is actually crippled and would never be able to give her the life she might have wished for?
