He Resented His Dad While Growing Up. What He Found Out a Few Years Later Changed His Life Forever
“I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren’t trying to teach us. We are formed by the little scraps of wisdom.” – Umberto Eco
Sometimes, even if it’s not intentional, children don’t appreciate the little things that their parents do for us. Maybe because we sometimes don’t see the bigger picture but, nevertheless, we know that our parents are doing everything they can to give what’s best for us.
Take a look at this boy. This boy never saw his dad as an inspiration; instead, he resented him as he was growing up until he found out his secret a few years after and this changed his whole life forever.
“The Gift”, a seven minute touching short Singaporean film uploaded in Viddsee shows us the true value of wealth and the importance of giving. In the opening of the video, we see a “Mr. Lim” who has never been proud of his father.
Growing up, he resented his dad because they were poor and he thought his dad was unsuccessful and not doing anything about it. It is only after the death of his father did he realize that he was wrong all this time. He discovered a secret that he never knew– the generosity of his father that brought joy to others’ lives. That’s the only time he realized the message his father had been telling him all his life, that “Being rich is not about how much we have, but how much we give.”
