Because of a small cataract on her right eye when she was born, Layla had to wear eye patches until she’s about four years old. The small cataract on Layla clouds the vision of her right eye and in order to help the injured eye to develop correctly, she has to wear an eyepatch on her strong eye for 2 hours everyday. This habit helps prevent ambylopia, also known as the lazy eye disorder, where the vision in one eye does not fully develop during childhood.
Geof Grubb, Layla’s father and a Reddit contributor, said that Layla often gets irritated easily while wearing the eye patches so it is not easy everyday. So, the brilliant dad tried to make the best out of a bad situation by drawing cute and adorable little drawings on his daughter’s eye patch. Each day, he customizes her a new eye patch and what started as raw sketches became pieces of art and has now become something really creative–and many people loved the idea!
