A rather handsome young man, Dylan Huffaker could have taken any girl he chooses to the prom yet he chose his mother, instead, because she’s terminally ill with stage 4 brain cancer and only has a 1-2 year prognosis.
Kerry and Dylan Huffaker hail from Twin Falls, Idaho.
Kerry was diagnosed with cancer and only has a few years to live – leading Dylan to believe that she might never make it to his wedding in the future. So, instead of wallowing in grief, he decided to make new memories with her by asking her to be his prom date.
The teenager even went the extra mile by bringing along a box of donuts with “Will you go to prom with me?” written on the pastries when he surprised her at the hospital.
Here’s a video of the surprise promposal:
Although Kerry was not sure about going to the prom with Dylan since she didn’t want to embarrass him with an “old, bald date”, Dylan insisted and said, “No I won’t. I’ll have the prettiest date there.”
At the prom, the DJ even gave them a special moment by clearing the dance floor and playing “The Dance” by Garth Brooks, allowing the two to dance the first half by themselves.
“I put her through 17 years of hard times, so it’s worth it to take her to prom. I love that my mom is as caring as she is,” Dylan said. “No matter what you’re going through, she’s willing to help — no matter what hard times she’s facing.”
