It is sad how humans have destroyed the Earth and brought misfortune not only to the human race but to animals as well.
In India, an elephant family fell into a 14-foot deep construction pit. While the 3-month-old baby survived, its mother died in the fall.
Young as it was, the baby elephant could not understand why its mother would not wake up so it kept nudging her body with its little trunk, to no avail.
Rescuers arrived to save the pair but while they managed to revive the mother, she would shortly die due to her massive injuries.
“This calf underwent a traumatic time before being brought to the International Fund for Animal Welfare-Wildlife Trust of India (IFAW-WTI) Wildlife Rescue Center in the northeastern state of Assam, India,” said IFAW spokesperson Kerry Branon.
The baby elephant was named Ghoramara. They moved him to a facility where he shared a home with another rescued elephant who was about his age, Burhee.
Because they calves were still so young, they were given formula feeds and had to wrapped in special blankets to keep them warm. Their veterinarian Dr. Panjit Basumatary would also wrap their legs in special ‘socks’.
Branon revealed, “The duo will be slowly be introduced to the other elephants who have already formed a small herd and go for their wild walks in the adjoining reserve forest.”
