What would you do if you see a giant creature that looks like a rat walking just a few feet away? Well, I’m sure I would run away – or perhaps creep up to the creature to take a photo! LOL.
That’s what happened to many people playing or watching at the Olympic golf course in Rio because there were giant rodents roaming around! But there’s no need to fear these huge rodents because despite their large size (some could weigh well over 100 lbs and grow about 4.5 feet long!), they are actually mostly tame and gentle creatures.
Still, considering that they look like oversized rats, some people might feel spooked by these capybaras – that’s why there were those participating in the golf games at the Olympics who were feeling a bit apprehensive about sharing the golf course with the world’s largest rodent.
But many actually appreciate having these creatures around because this simply shows that the government of Brazil may have botched some of the venues in the Olympics but they had done well in creating a golf course that did not keep the native species away from their natural habitats.
United States Olympian Rickie Fowler said, “It’s a decent-sized animal. I wouldn’t want to get in a fight with it, that’s for sure. There’s some caimans cruising around and I’m definitely going to stay away from them. It’s cool. Like I said, they have done a great job with the golf course, keeping somewhat of the natural habitat – if I was capybara, I mean, I’d love to live there at the Olympic course.”
Indeed, I would surely be more afraid of the caimans lurking in the murky waters than the oversized “rats” that live there…
