Do you teach your kids to do chores at home? Do you separate chores based on gender – such as cooking and washing clothes for girls, then washing the car for boys?
While parents surely have different opinions as to the distribution of chores in their home and at what age kids should start helping out, single mom Nikkole Paulun from Michigan thinks that chores should not be based on gender; thus, she’s teaching her 6-year-old son to do all types of chores at home – and the internet thinks she’s going too far!
In a post that has since gone viral on Facebook, Mommy Nikkole explained that she does not want her son to be “too manly” to do chores at home.
“My son will never be too “manly” to cook or do chores. He will be the kind of man who can come inside from changing a tire to check on his pot roast. Who can properly sort his laundry and mow the lawn too,” she wrote. “Remember parents, a man who believes he shouldn’t have to cook or do chores was once a boy who was never taught any better.”
But while many parents lauded her for teaching her son to do chores, there were also many who think that it is too much to let the kid do a lot of work at home because as his mother, she should be the one to do most of the work!
Little did these bashers know that this kind of mentality was the exact thing she was trying to teach her son not to follow…
Do you agree with her post?
