Small for his age and suffering from kidney troubles, 15-year-old Tristan Dynel Gogit resorted to singing for strangers at the food court of a shopping mall in the Philippines, so these people could give him money or buy him medication for his condition.
In a post that has since gone viral on Facebook, a social media user named Elisa Regalario Secillano shared how she and her friends met the young lad while they were dining at the food court in Robinson’s Sta. Rosa in Laguna, Philippines.
According to Elisa, the boy approached them, asking whether he could sing in exchange for his medication. They ignored him at first but one of Elisa’s friends realized that she had previously seen the boy singing to another group at the same mall the last time she was there.
So, they asked the boy why he was singing in exchange for medication. They learned from Tristan that his parents were separated and had other children to care for but because he needed to undergo regular dialysis to save his kidney (one is already damaged), he had to find ways to raise money by himself.
The lad told Elisa and her group that he would sometimes go to the dialysis center by himself because his parents were busy. There, he would often get free check-ups if he sings to the staff.
The group marveled at the boy’s determination and will to live. But they were even more surprised to hear his golden voice! The boy sang “Hesus”, a gospel song – and as you can see in the video, he truly has a wonderful voice and could easily compete with the kids you see on TV!
