In too big of a hurry to even say “please” during your morning rush to grab a cup of coffee? In this busy world, everyone seems to be in a hurry to go on with their everyday routines that sometimes, they even forget to mind their manners and they need someone to remind them. This is what a barista did when got fed up with rude customers — he put up a sign outside their store which went viral overnight. Can you guess what he wrote?
Austin Simms, a barista at CUPS Coffee and Tea at the Roanoke Valley in Virginia is getting national attention after a photo he placed outside their store went viral. He had the bright idea to send a message to not-so-friendly customers that come into their store. What he did was he set a clever sign outside of the shop in order to inspire customers to step up the game on their manners.
The concept is simple: the more polite you are when ordering, the less you pay for coffee.
The sandwich board reads:
“Small coffee, please”
“Hello, one small coffee, please.”
Austin said, “I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter.”
According to the owner of the shop, Olivia Byrd, no customer was really charged more or less for their coffee depending on how friendly they were to the barista while placing the order.
However, Austin’s message is getting across to the customers of the store, who apparently have been more polite since it was posted. He had no idea his simple sign would go viral overnight, but we’re SO glad it did! What a unique and clever way to get your message to the masses!
The story was even published in a newspaper in England the very next day!
Hands up to you Austin, for taking your barista skills to the next level by whipping up an ounce of kindness that is inspiring millions today.
Have a great day everyone! 🙂
