Parents Brittani and Ian McIntyre were overjoyed to learn that they were having twins yet the good news quickly turned grim when doctors found out that the boy might not make it because of a heart defect and brain abnormality though the girl is expected to live.
The couple has given the children names: Mason and Madilyn.
But it was of great consolation to the couple that Madilyn seems to feel her brother’s struggle and is doing her best to help him survive his heartbreaking journey.
In one of the ultrasound sessions, she was seen holding tightly on Mason’s hand, as if telling him that he is never alone because she is there – and with that, they can conquer their problems.
The babies are being closely monitored for any changes – and c-section is likely to happen even if Mason survives until they are ready to be born.
The brokenhearted mom said, “I know I’m holding him, I’m carrying him but I just want to be there for him.” She continues to hold on to Mason’s 3D image even as it appears that she might never even see him out of her womb alive.
“[Madilyn] is the only one who can actually be there and is holding onto him,” she added. “It’s comforting to know that if he does pass, he won’t be alone.”
