Artist CJ Hendry, from New York City, is widely known for her large black and white ink drawings of fashion products. While she has an incredible talent, she also has a big heart for social causes.
In a fund raising activity (#SneakerDead Project) for Sheltering Arms, a youth institution, she destroyed a $10,000-Nike Air MAGs by dipping half of it in black paint. That’s right, she ruined a very expensive and one of the most exclusive sneakers out there (only 1,500 pairs were made). Then, she draw the ‘ruined’ sneakers in a very large canvass using pen and ink.
It was worth it because the drawing was sold for $130,000. The money earned (all 100% of it) was then used to buy more than 900 pairs of sneakers for the Sheltering Arms youth.
The project serves as a powerful message for symbolizing that a simple thing like shoes can serve as an avenue to inspire and touch the lives of other people.
