Have you noticed how there are people who excel at things that are totally related to the first name or surname?
Well, there’s this kid whose family name is Ball – and it seems that working the ball runs in the family because he just became an overnight internet star for scoring 92 points in one basketball game, his brother is one of his teammates (but had to sit the game out due to an injury), and their older brother is no less than star freshman at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Lonzo Ball!
LaMelo Ball is the star player of Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California. In a match last Tuesday against Los Osos High School of Rancho Cucamonga, California, LeMelo scored a whopping 92 points, 41 of which were scored during the last quarter!
His older brother LiAngelo had to sit that game out due to an injury but the middle child of the Ball family is also great at basketball, having scored 72 points in an earlier game of the season! Yeah, talk about a family of Balls owning the balls in their respective basketball games…
But while the internet went crazy over LaMelo’s 92 points in the game, someone was pissed off: Los Osos head coach Dave Smith who thought the performance was ridiculous.
Smith said, “That’s wrong. It goes against everything (the California Interscholastic Federation) stands for. The Ball boys are very talented and great players, but it’s embarrassing to high school athletics.”
But a lot of netizens think Coach Smith was just bitter because his team lost the game to LaMelo’s and would have sang a different tune if the young lad was on his team. Hmmm. What do you think?
This isn’t the first time that LaMelo Ball had gone viral on the internet. Last December, he called and fired a crazy half-court shot which made it to the hoop and was counted as a score but landed him in hot water on the internet because most people were not impressed and actually called him arrogant.
