Mariah Carey was caught lip synching in what was supposed to be a live performance for New Year’s countdown at the Dick Clark’s New Year Rockin’ Eve 2017.
The show which lasted for over 5 hours had featured various artists but Mariah was one of the highlights of the show, singing close to midnight.
While the performance started alright, she would soon bungle the second one because the song had already started with her voice singing in the background but she was not yet singing on stage! Realizing that the singer had been exposed, the background dancers managed to save the performance by acting as if nothing crazy was happening.
Mariah must have realized that the people know what’s happening so at the middle of the song so she didn’t try singing the song on stage and simply said, “I’m trying to be a good sport here.” She continued with the performance although it was rather painful to watch by now.
For her third song, it was apparent that she’s no longer trying to hide the fact that she’s lip synching – and at one point, it was clear that she wasn’t singing but her voice could be heard still continuing the song.
As expected, netizens took to social media to express their opinions about Mariah’s performance. Many weren’t sympathetic and posted that 2016 had been a year of many celebrity deaths – and these deaths include the death of Mariah’s career.
But Mariah was not fazed. She later wrote on Twitter:
Shit happens 😩 Have a happy and healthy new year everybody!🎉 Here’s to making more headlines in 2017 😂 pic.twitter.com/0Td8se57jr
