Accident Makes Wife Lose Memory, But Husband Makes Her Fall in Love Again

It was something that one would think would only happen in the movies, but a couple’s life was shattered when the wife met an accident that wiped out her memory – and left her thinking that her husband is a total stranger!

She had only been married to Brayden James Faganello for 9 months when Laura Hart Faganello met an accident at work that made her lose her memory. The brain injury caused her to forget a lot of things, including how to read, write, and talk coherently. What’s worse, she thought she was still 17 years old and had not even met Brayden!

While setting up for an event, a large pole dislodged and fell on my head. My next clear memory is of waking up thinking I was 17 years old, and not knowing who Brayden was. My memory of meeting, falling in love with, and marrying Brayden was gone,” Laura shared on her Facebook account.

Over the course of the past two years since the accident I’ve had to relearn how to read, write, and speak coherently, learn to live with the short and long term memory loss, cope with constant pain, and come to terms with the fact that I’m married to someone I don’t truly know.

I went through a period of anger and depression; I felt like so much had been ripped away from me. I desperately hoped my memory would come back, that some day I would look at Brayden and remember everything. Unfortunately that has yet to happen.

Despite his wife never regaining her memory of him and their beautiful life together, Brayden never left her side. He was with her every step of the way, making her feel how much he loves her even though she felt awkward seeing him around.

He was a stranger to her, but his love prevailed and he was determined to see that day when she would fall in love with him again.

One day, after a long period of simply ignoring him and feeling a bit scared having him around, Laura took off her ring, deciding once and for all to do something about this weird marriage she has.

I eventually realized I had to make a choice. I couldn’t stay in a marriage that I didn’t remember choosing. It’s really hard to feel completely devoted to a marriage when you feel like you just woke up to it one day.

Even though I didn’t really know who Brayden was, I saw how kind and patient he was with me. He was sweet and silly and quirky, and I wanted to try to make it work. I took off my rings, and I told him I wanted to date him. So, we started dating again.

Brayden understood how Laura felt. And while he can’t force her to remember their beautiful memories together, he made sure they made new ones to last a lifetime.

Brayden became my best friend, and then my crush, and then my love. I haven’t miraculously gotten my memory and all my old feelings for him back, but I have new feelings and new memories. I’ve learned that love is a choice, and I am choosing to love Brayden.

Today he proposed to me (again), and I said yes (again)! I’m so grateful for our new beginning and for the happy future we have ahead of us.

A lot of people were surprised and definitely inspired by their story. In this world where many couples readily give up on their relationships at the first sign of trouble, it was awesome to find a couple who was willing to do everything to make their marriage work.

And while there’s no assurance that Laura would ever get her memory back, it was great to learn that she has once again fallen in love with her husband, the man who never left her side even in the worst moments of her life…

God bless you both!
