Dogs are intelligent creatures. They can be easily trained to do tricks or even useful things like guiding blind people, acting as therapy dogs, or sniffing out dangerous or forbidden items.
Amazingly, dogs can also learn through observation.
There is this dog named Negro who recently went viral for his unique way of getting treats from a food seller.
Photos of the dog were shared on social media by a teacher at Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare, in Colombia. The dog had been adopted by the facility and has been living inside the campus for years.
Apparently, students at the school would sometimes buy treats for Negro. The rather observant Negro noticed that the kids would give the seller a piece of paper (money) and get the treats in return.
One day, he decided to give it a try. Since he obviously didn’t have any money to give, he picked up a leaf with his mouth and took it to the stall, in hopes that he would get a treat.
“He would go to the store and watch the children give money and receive something in exchange. Then one day, spontaneous, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie,” revealed teacher Angela Garcia Bernal.
Amused over the dog’s intelligence, the long-time attendant, Gladys Barreto, decided to give him a cookie in exchange for the leaf!
Thinking that leaves were really acceptable as cash, the dog kept on buying his cookies with his chosen currency. Clever dog, isn’t he?
“He comes for cookies every day. He always pays with a leaf. It is his daily purchase,” she explained.
But the stall could go bankrupt if Gladys continues to give in each time Negro ‘buys’ with his leaf currency. So, she limits it to just once or twice a day.
