Boy Loses Entire Family to Fire, Writes Heartbreaking Answer to Assignment in School

A young boy recently went viral after his teacher shared his heartbreaking answer to an assignment to bring their family picture, because he lost his entire family to a fire just this year.

Rheann Khinn Cabahog studies at T. Awad Echevarria Elementary School in Barangay Mandug, Buhangin, Davao City.

He was simply answering his teacher’s assignment but it broke so many people’s hearts, with netizens commenting words of encouragement for the young lad to never give up despite his difficult situation.

It all started when his teacher, Arnold Legara Cuevas, asked the class to bring their family picture to school. They were to write an essay about their families, but since Rheann lost his early this year, his essay was so sad that it caught his teacher’s attention.

The teacher had not idea that the kid had actually lost his family; thus, he called the kid for an interview. What he learned broke his heart.

It turned out that the Rheann’s family lives in Isabela. Last March 12, his parents and two younger siblings were sleeping when fire broke out inside their house; they did not survive.

The teacher was puzzled how Rheann managed to survive. But the kid explained that he actually lives with his grandmother and aunt in Davao City where he is currently studying, while his family is in Isabela.

Last March, his father wanted to take him to Isabela but his adviser at the time, Josephine Echavez Sumarago, told the family that it was best that they let him complete the school year before moving him there.

Sadly, the family was lost to the fire – and Rheann would have also been there if his former adviser did not intervene.

Today, the kid continues to live with grandmother and aunt in Davao City. He said that though he misses his family, as expected of course, he is happy that he is loved by his grandmother and tita as well as his teachers and friends in school.
