Chinese Man Treats Other Customers with 5,000 Bowls of Noodles After Recovering Lost Diamond Ring

Losing your engagement ring can be quite devastating and heartbreaking, especially given that the odds of finding such a tiny (but valuable) piece of jewelry are slim. But luckily, this Chinese man didn’t have to face this dilemma as he has luck on his side, after recovering his engagement ring he unpurposedly left on a restaurant.

A Chinese man in the southwestern city of Chongqing paid for 5,000 bowls of spicy noodles as a gesture of thanks to a restaurant for recovering his lost engagement ring. On August 13, the man, identified as Mr. Wang by the Chongqing Morning Post, had initially planned to surprise his girlfriend by proposing on their 1-year anniversary.

He spent the morning making preparations for the engagement but while having lunch at the restaurant, he moved away from where he was seated to take a call from his girlfriend, just in case she spotted him. When he returned, he found his bag had gone, which contained the three-carat diamond engagement ring said to be worth 300,000 yuan (US $44,900 or £35,000).

But fortunately, a resident had picked up the bag and gave it to the manager of the restaurant, who later returned it to Mr. Wang.

The next day, Mr. Yue told the Chongqing Morning Post that Mr Wang “unexpectedly” returned to the restaurant the following day.

“He asked us how many bowls of spicy noodles we sell in a day, and then gave me 35,000 yuan (US $5,200; £4,000), which is 5,000 bowls, saying ‘please invite everyone to eat for free for the day.'”

According to South China Morning Post,  Mr. Wang gave a “thank you” letter to the shop, confirming that his girlfriend had accepted his engagement, thanks to the kindness of local people. And the free noodles were for celebrating the engagement.

“Chongqing has the woman I love, and so many nice people,” the letter read. “I feel very honoured and happy.”

Congratulations on their engagement!
