“Be proud you are a teacher for the future depends on you.” – Ricardo T. Gloria, former Secretary of the Department of Education, Philippines
In the Philippines, many schools place this quote in large letters across the campus to motivate the teachers in their jobs and to remind them that truly, they are the foundations of learning and the models for their students.
We’ve seen many proofs of this saying yet there is one profound story highlighting the experience of Virginia Padilla Roble, a teacher how was under the care of a former student who is now a surgeon, Dr. Dilbert Monicit, at Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City.
The teacher broke her left forearm and was hospitalized for a couple of days at the private hospital. When it was time for her to be discharged, she received the surprising note from her former student through the nurse’s station.
Instead of needing to pay the doctor’s professional fees, this teacher didn’t even have to pay a single cent because the doctor waived it all! Of course, she still has to pay the hospital for the other parts of the bill but since doctors’ fees are often quite high, she was able to save a lot of money.
This is clear proof that teachers are truly inspiring. Certainly, the teacher did not expect that one day this would happen to her but it was great that of the many students she taught in school, one would help her out in this manner.
Isn’t this so inspiring?
