Eco-Friendly School Praised for Coconut Shells, Bamboo, and Banana Leaves in Canteen

There are so many problems with the environment these days that it is important for us to take a stand and help save Mother Earth. After all, there is no Planet B! The Earth is our only home.

Recently, a school went viral for the impressive way it teaches students to help save the environment.

Papatahan Integrated National High School in Paete, Laguna features a school canteen made of recycled and native materials. With bamboo sheets, sawali, and recycled wood, the place truly has a native ambience.

The outdoor tables and stools were also decorated to match the native theme.

But what was really impressive is that this canteen makes use of native tableware and cutlery to ensure sustainability.

Most, if not all, of the food served at the canteen of this impressive school are placed on banana leaves and baskets.

Trays lined with bamboo leaves are used as plates while coconut shells cut in half and smoothed out are used as soup bowls.

Different-sized coconut shells with bamboo holders are also used as ladle and spoons while cut bamboo is used as cups and glasses. Straws are also made from grass material.

Because the students are making use of these eco-friendly cutlery and tableware in their canteen, there is less plastic waste to deal with. The sustainable idea is something that many netizens believe should also be adapted by other schools.
