A giant glowing ball that looks like an alien portal lit up the skies in Siberia, Russia. The strange light was a wonderful sight but at the same time it sparked fears of an alien invasion and end-of-the-world scenarios.
Sergey Anisimov, a photographer from the town of Salekhard, captured the extraordinary scenes.
According to him, “I was taken aback for a few minutes, not understanding what was happening. The glowing ball rose from behind the trees and moved in my direction.”
“My first thought was about the most powerful searchlight, but the speed of changing everything around changed the idea of what was happening. The ball began to turn into an arc and gradually dissipated.”
When he returned home, the lights were already the talk of the town with the people citing aliens and portals to another dimension.
Meanwhile in Strezhevoi, another photographer, Alexey Yakovlev, also captured the strange lights.
He said, “At first I thought, it was such a radiance of such an unusual form, round in shape. But gradually the ball began to expand, it became clear that this is not some radiance – and it became scary.”
At first he thought he was just imagining it but he realized that people had been posting and talking about it as well.
He said, “It’s good that I was not alone – a group of people cannot hallucinate.”
It turns out that the phenomenon is man-made and it is not the end of the world yet. The mystery glow was a trace of a launch of a Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile that was aimed at the Kura testing range.
The launch was one of several exercises by the Russian strategic nuclear forces as confirmed by the Russian defence ministry.
