There are lots of Christmas ads nowadays, now that Christmas time is just around the corner. Most of the ads I see lately revolves on the most important part of the holidays: family. (A/N: Get your tissues ready for this one.)
Sometimes, we get too busy in earning a living, with the intention of giving a good life to our loved ones, but in doing so, we get less and less time to spend with them.
The heartbreaking commercial opens with an old man coming home with groceries in hand with his dog just in time to hear a voicemail from his daughter, explaining that she and her kids can’t make it for Christmas this year but will definitely make it next year. ‘We’ll try again next year. It’ll work out, I promise. Merry Christmas Daddy,’ the message concludes. The same small voice is heard crying ‘See you soon. Merry Christmas Grandpa!’ before the phone cuts off.
Viewers then watch as it seems the old man eats Christmas dinner by himself year after year, and it gives us the impression that it’s unlikely she really ever comes home for Christmas. But then, the old man thought of a plan to get all of his children home for the holidays. As the plans go, it goes from heartwarming to heartbreaking.
The video shows us that what finally brings the family together is meant to be a reminder of the sad consequences of not spending enough time with family, using the hashtag #heimkommen – come home.
