Medical Mystery Sends 7-Year-Old Boy into Deep Sleep for 11 Consecutive Days

A 7-year-old boy from Kentucky stayed in a deep sleep for 3 weeks and doctors are baffled.

The Kentucky boy slept for 11 straight days, despite efforts by his mother to wake him up. His extended sleep has doctors perplexed as to why Little Wyatt Shaw slept for so long.

According to his parents, little Wyatt stole the show dancing the night away at a wedding reception earlier in October. Wyatt’s mother suspected that he would be very tired the next day.

Little Wyatt’s mother, Amy Shaw, said when she tried to wake Little Wyatt up, he complained of a headache and a sore stomach – with the young boy going straight back to sleep.

She told Fox News: “I tried to wake him up, and he fell back to sleep.”

“[I’d say,] ‘Wyatt, Wyatt, Wyatt!’ And he fell back to sleep again,” she added.

Believing her son had a seizure during her sleep, Amy Shaw took her son to the doctor and was immediately sent to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, where he continued to sleep for 10 additional days, The News-Enterprise reported. Doctors initially suspected a virus or bacteria.

“Every test they did came back clear,” Amy Shaw said.

Wyatt was eventually given medication typically used to treat seizures, which helped to wake him, but they still can’t figure out what caused him to fall into such a deep sleep. He’s also having trouble walking and talking, WDRB reported.

The medical staff is in a total mystery since a battery of tests was performed and they were all negative.

In the coming weeks, Wyatt will remain under the supervision of doctors to try to find the cause of his sleep.
