Thai Man **** of Hypothermia After Directing 3 Electric Fans to Himself While Sleeping

Our body is capable of adjusting to a sudden change of temperature, called thermal adaptation. When our body’s exposure to a stimulus that is warmer than physiological zero is prolonged, it tends to feel less warm; on the other hand, when our body’s exposure to a stimulus that is colder than physiological zero is prolonged , it tends to feel less cold.

However, there are cases when the body fails to adjust to the sudden change of temperature that causes it to be in a state of shock.

On Thursday night, a 44-year-old man from Tambon Nai Muang in Thailand’s Chaiyaphum province named Sobthawee Boonkua went to his relative’s house to look after his 86-year-old mother. Later on, he decided to stay there and spend the night so he has more time to spend with them.

Apparently, the temperature in Thailand can be very warm in the afternoon and because of that, Boonkua was worried that he won’t be able to sleep well the whole night. Aside from the warm weather, the room where he was staying was poorly ventilated as well.

So, to make sure that he would sleep soundly during the night, he put three electric fans and pointed them directly towards his bed before going to sleep. However, he forgot that Chaiyaphum province is known to have a drastic change in temperature at night and early in the morning.

Unfortunately, his body had a hard time adjusting to it.

Early Friday, a relative was shocked when she found Boonkua lying in his room lifeless and his body was really cold. The relative immediately called an ambulance so he could be rushed to the hospital. Lt. Colonel Thanasit Apiboonworaset of Muang Chaiyaphum police arrived at the scene at 8:30 in the morning.

After conducting an investigation and examination on the body of Boonkuan, the medical examiner concluded that he died of hypothermia.
