If you want to live in a beautiful town in New Zealand called Kaitangata, enjoy a bonus of $160,000, find work from any of the 1,000+ job vacancies there, and live in peace with its 800+ residents, then you just have to call the mayor to get a slot – so goes the ‘ad’ circulating on the web.
But while it is true that Kaitangata exists and that it has 800+ residents struggling to fill the 1,000+ job vacancies, the bonus part is not really true! Still, ‘news’ of the bonus has gone so viral on the web that Clutha District Mayor Bryan Cadogan’s office is getting swamped with calls from thousands of people from across the world who wanted to claim the money and go live in the beautiful town!
The false report may have spawned from a miscommunication issue since the town had a very enticing offer to interested folks: “For $230,000 you can get a brand-new 3-bedroom house and some land”!
People must have gotten it all wrong!
If you wish to get that ‘brand new house and some land’, you have to pay $230,000 – the government of Kaitangata is not going to give that money to you! We’re also not quite sure how people came up with the $160,000 supposed bonus but the $230,000 price tag on the house and lot is not actually bad, especially considering that homes in nearby cities have a median of as much as $482,000 to as high as $765,000!
So, if you are really interested to get a job in Kaitangata, even without the bogus bonus touted by some websites, you’d still get a good deal by taking the town’s offer for that budget-friendly home!
