Pizza lovers from around the world should mark this moment in history. The first commercial pizza delivery by an unmanned aerial vehicle (popularly known as drone) took place last Nov 16, 2016 in New Zealand.
Domino’s, a popular pizza company, successfully completed its first drone delivery to an actual customer in Whangaparaoa, New Zealand.
After performing test deliveries last August, Domino’s has finally embraced the drone technology meet their goal to improve delivery services.
So why would drones make pizza deliveries better? First, it is really cool to get your pizza dropped from the sky. Secondly, drones do not need to go through traffic congestion and road patterns so expect the delivery times to be greatly reduced.
The downside? It may start a new breed of criminals, ‘pizza hijackers’. And, you won’t probably have this service during rain or snow.
Domino’s Pizza is already considering to implement drone deliveries in Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands by 2017. Expect this new trend to take over the world really quick.
