How many children do you have? Can you imagine being mother to 69 children? Waaaaaaah! That’s surely something that is so crazy to think about and many would surely not believe that it is possible but according to records obtained by Guinness World Records from a monastery in Russia, a peasant in the 1700s had given birth to 69 children, 67 of which had survived to adulthood!
So, how did that happen? And was it really true?
Well, for starters, Guinness World Records has a reputation to uphold; thus, if they post the record on their official list, then it must have some grain of truth in it – and the world record for “Most Prolific Mother” they gave to the wife of Feodor Vassilyev whose childbirths were recorded by monks at a nearby monastery.
While the woman was not named, she was identified as the first wife of Feodor Vassilyev. Feodor not only had 69 children with his first wife, he also went on and had 18 with his second wife; this made him father to 87 children.
“In 27 confinements she gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets,” Guinness World Records wrote. It is said that the monks of Monastery of Nikolsk reported the feat to Moscow on February 27, 1782.
What’s even more amazing is that this record-holder was born at the time when even singleton births were very dangerous. Moreover, even with advances in medical technology these days, multiple births are still quite dangerous – and this woman had multiple births for all 27 pregnancies!
Guinness World Records does admit that the information should be taken with a grain of salt but also pointed out that “It is also not impossible for a woman to have 27 pregnancies during her fertile years.”
So, do you think this world record is for real?
